An evening with Maxim Butkevich, anarchist and human rights activist, soldier and prisoner of war

‘In prison, you realise the value of freedom. You can touch freedom, you can breathe it, bathe in it, live in it’
(Maxim Butkewitsch in an interview with the WOZ)

Maxim Butkevich is one of the most prominent human rights activists in Ukraine. A staunch anti-militarist for years, he enlisted for military service shortly after Russia's full-scale invasion, was taken prisoner of war by Russia a few months later, and was released in October as part of a prisoner exchange.

In Zurich, Butkevich will talk about how he survived his long imprisonment, why he is now campaigning for prisoners of war - and what left-wing perspectives there are for Ukraine and Europe in view of the geopolitical upheavals.
